Trade Bell: Dons offer "more than tempting" for breakout Dog

The Trade Bell has been rung once more, this time on Tuesday morning - the first day of September.

SEN's Sam Edmund responded to texts from listeners and provided some further info on SEN’s Whateley.

Arty Jones to Essendon?

“I would have Essendon as a very, very good chance to land Arty Jones,” Edmund said.

“A decision has not been made. Essendon have the bigger offer as things stand, and valuing this player has been the challenge for all parties.

“What the Dogs are offering now is essentially what the Jones camp were pushing for mid-season.

“I know this is the art of negotiation, but it’s taken time for the Dogs to get to the here and now, and that has let other clubs like the Bombers in. It’s a three-year offer from the Dogs at the moment.

“There is also a fear at the Kennel that after his Wildcard Final exploits, that Essendon could go north again and might even sweeten their offer further.

“It is a real battle for this guy here, and considerable speculation that the Bombers’ offer is more than tempting.

“Pretty hard to call at the moment this one.”

Jordan De Goey offered big dollars from Adelaide?

“Adelaide, I’m not sure, but what we can say is that he, via his management, is once again considering his playing options.

“Jordan De Goey’s management has contacted rival clubs this year to ask, ‘are you interested in our guy’, who is contracted until the end of next year at Collingwood.

“De Goey was subject to strong trade speculation last off-season, and it amounted to nothing.

“He has been chased by St Kilda multiple times in recent seasons and stayed put. But there have been fresh approaches in the back half of this year.

“So, again, you’d have some level of question mark around his immediate playing future.

“His management haven’t returned calls over the last two days, but I know Jordan De Goey is a question mark at the moment, again.”

Zach Merrett to Sydney?

“We can keep that receipt, but I don’t think it’ll be worth anything.

“He won’t be going to the Swans. There has been no contact between the Swans and Zach Merrett.

“Zach has left for an overseas holiday, and he has done so confident that he will get to Hawthorn at the second time of asking.

“It’s still one destination and one destination only. A lot has changed in the last 12 months; what hasn’t changed is his destination club.

“I think this gets done.”

Christian Petracca wants out… to the Hawks?

“I can’t put any fact around this; there have been whispers.

“There have been murmurs and rumours – nothing more than that at the moment.

“A level of tension between club and player here – it hasn’t quite worked, that’s obvious to see from the outside.

“Whether it gets to a stage where one party approaches the other and says, how about we think about parting ways… I’m not pretending that that’s going to happen, that’s still highly unlikely.

“But not all is well with Petracca and Gold Coast. I think we can say that much.”

Jesse Hogan to Carlton?

“He could be. I wouldn’t shut the door on that.

“We’ve got Gold Coast in here as well; we’ve got Collingwood as well.

“He is busy meeting these clubs as we speak, Jesse Hogan. His playing future is very much up in the air.

“We know he won’t be at GWS, but he will be somewhere going forward, being one of the pieces that moves this trade period.

“If it is to be Carlton, how does Joel Amartey fit into that – clearly, both can’t happen.

“Calsher Dear is somewhere in the mix here as well. Jesse Hogan certainly will be playing – he might come full circle, back in Victoria which of course is where his career started.

“I wouldn’t rule Carlton out; they are still in contention for him, for sure.”

Jack Scrimshaw to North Melbourne?

“This is the Alastair Clarkson link.

“This would make a lot of sense, but I’m only reading that, I’m not putting any substance around that.

“He has been on the outer at times at Hawthorn this year.”

Tim English to GWS?

“I’ve been told categorically that it won’t be GWS.

“I can’t get anyone to say that categorically he will definitely be staying at the Western Bulldogs.

“I would still be keeping the door ajar on a move, but I don’t think it will be to GWS.”

Gold Coast trio on the outer?

“The Suns are very busy, both in terms of players coming in and going out.

“I think we can pencil Jake Rogers and Alex Davies in as staying put.

“Both need new deals, both talked about as leaving, but like we’ve said on Jamarra with a one-year deal, that’s coming to fruition as well.

“I think they both stay. Charlie Ballard is the one being pursued by the Dogs.

“The Saints have an interest here as well. Gold Coast want him to stay – there’s a chance the player will request a trade, but if he is to leave, it won’t be driven by the club.

“He is contracted until 2029, lots of clubs looking for backs at the moment but Gold Coast want him to stay.”
