Maher: “Headscratcher” on Jimmysstar’s Memsie run

Jimmysstar finished ninth in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes and never really showed the class that we know the horse has.

Ciaron Maher has provided an update on his stable star Jimmysstar after that disappointing showing in last week’s feature.

“Jimmy has come through pretty well,” Maher told SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up.

“Out of all the horses I ran I was reasonably confident with him, and he was biggest headscratcher of the week.

“I don’t like to make too many excuses for him as all the signs leading in he looked sharp and very good.”

While at this stage there is no decision yet on his future spring targets, there are couple of options for Maher’s team.

“There is either the Mankato, or we step out in trip,” said Maher.

Additionally, Maher gave an update on a few other notable horses in his stable, some who are returning to the track this weekend, and some pulling up from recent starts.

King Of The Sea

He was scintillating in a first-up win, showing incredible class and blasting himself into the top of The Metropolitan futures market.

But upon pulling up there is a concern that has arisen the horse’s fitness.

“He had a bit of heat in one leg… I just need to check him out,” said Maher.

Tempted

The horse that ran second in the 2025 Everest to Ka Ying Rising is returning to the track this Saturday for another spring preparation.

When asked whether he expects Tempted to win first-up in the Group 2 Concorde Stakes Maher said:

“Yes, she has come back really well."

“She is just in a good spot; her trials have been good.

“She had a great year as a three-year-old and she seems to have furnished that little bit both mentally and physically, so looking forward to getting her back.”

Tempted is the short priced favourite at $1.85 with Sportsbet.

Tennessee Bound

Tennessee Bound returns once again this weekend in the Group 3 Chautauqua Stakes over 1300m.

Maher has a degree of confidence in the five-year-old mare.

“If it does get wet, she won’t mind that,” he said.

“(She is) a mare in really good form… down in the weights… and she posted her best figure last start even though she got beat.”

Currently favourite at $4.20 with Sportsbet this Saturday in Race 9 at Sandown.
