NZ Racing tips: Jayne Ivil & Mark Claydon's Saturday best bets (05/09)

New Zealand form analysts Jayne Ivil & Mark Claydon have given their best bets for racing in NZ this Saturday.

On SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up, Ivil gave their thoughts on Ellerslie and New Plymouth, while Claydo is still to come.

Race 1 3YO 1400m

8 – 1 – 6 – 7

Genie debuted at Te Rapa over 1200m and settled a long way from the leaders, travelling at the back of the field, she was set alight early and covered ground, finding the line only 1.2 lengths from the winner. She raced like she would learn from the experience and wasn’t helped with her rider dropping a rein in the final furlong. Her sectionals were the second fastest in a race where the form should stack up. Over 1400m on Saturday, in a small field she shouldn’t be giving her rivals as much of a start. At the price she represents good each-way value. Excites is the class galloper here, he finished last campaign with a win over 1400m at Listed level and looked good in a recent trial.

Race 7 G3 Sunline Vase 1200m

1 – 5 – 4 – 2

She’s No Saint has certainly hit a purple patch of form this preparation winning her last three in a row. She brings the best figures into this race and picked up a win at Group 3 level last start in the Northland Breeders Stakes. Drawn barrier 1 with the ability to settle on speed should give her a tactical advantage here. Silhouette finished third fresh up, four lengths behind She’s No Saint, who had a fitness advantage. Eased back from a wide barrier the filly raced keen and was then held up until the 250m, she still managed to run the fastest last 200m of the race. Second up and drawn well this Saturday I can see a much closer margin between the two fillies.

New Plymouth

Race 2 Maiden 1400m

1 – 8 – 2 – 9

Local trainer Robbie Patterson holds a strong hand in this Maiden. __Performer __lines up here for his third race day start after finishing close seconds in both his previous outings. The Gelding has had strong market support in both his runs and that continues this Saturday. He is well placed here, with home track advantage, an inside barrier draw and a 3kg apprentice claim. Stablemate One Bold Floozie comes into this off the back of a freshen up and has shown enough placing in three of her six runs.
