Rabbitohs CEO speaks on Walker's future at South Sydney

South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly is confident that the club will find an arrangement with experienced five-eighth Cody Walker as they look to negotiate his next contract following the end of their season.
Walker has been a staple in this South Sydney side over the last decade, representing the cardinal and myrtle on 245 occasions.
But at 36, there have been doubts about how much longer he’ll play in the NRL.
Following an injury-affected 2025, the veteran half signed a one-year extension, seeing him through to the end of this season.
And in 2026, the former NSW representative has enjoyed a superb year, having led the competition for linebreak involvements (31), second for linebreak assists (26) and third for try assists (24), seeing the Bunnies return to finals for the first time since 2022.
With Walker once again coming out of contract, speculation has once again risen about his playing future.
But as the South Sydney CEO told SEN’s Kick Off, they expect the 36-year-old to play on for another season.
“Yeah, I think he's gonna play on, which is great news,” Solly said.
“We said to Cody a couple of months ago, let's sit back and let the season take its course, concentrate on going as far as we can in the finals and having the best possible season.
“He had to make the decision about whether he wanted to play in ‘27, and then once the season finishes, we'll sit down, and hopefully we can extend him by another year and see what happens after that, but his form in the last few weeks has been terrific.
“Obviously, he's loving playing; he's pretty keen to play behind Payne Haas as well, so it's great that he wants to keep playing in the form that he's in at the moment and the way in which his composure has come to the fore.
“I think that makes it a pretty easy decision for all of us at the end of the season.”
The Rabbitohs conclude their home and away season on Friday when they take on archrivals Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium.
Kick-off is at 8pm AEST.
