Kyrgios set to return to competition after reduced suspension

Nick Kyrgios can now return to playing tennis, with the 31-year-old having been handed a one-month suspension for drug use.

The 31-year-old tested positive for cocaine during an ATP 250 event in Mallorca in June, which saw him provisionally suspended from August.

But following an interview with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which determined that the use of the substance had been out of competition, the ban was reduced to one month, so long as he attends a treatment program approved by the ITIA.

Having been suspended from August 4, it means that he has effectively served his punishment for his actions.

Had the usage taken place during a tournament, Kyrgios could have faced a four-year suspension from the sport.

Following the news of the positive test last month, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist admitted on Instagram that he made a 'huge mistake' and apologised to his family, fans, sponsors and those close to him for his actions.
