Trade Live: All-Australian Lion makes big call on future

Zac Bailey will remain with the Brisbane Lions.

The 26-year-old has decided to stay put with the Lions on a massive eight-year deal.

Bailey has knocked back a more lucrative offer from the Adelaide Crows to stick with the club for which he has played 189 games and won the last two premierships.

His deal will keep him in Lions colours until the end of 2034.

Bailey was recently named in the All-Australian team for a second straight season.

“I’m absolutely rapt to be staying at the Brisbane Lions,” Bailey said.

“I love the environment here, the players, coaches and staff who all make it a great place to be and I feel like this Club continues to bring the best out of me.

“This Club means so much to me - I came here as a young player and have grown up here and to know I will be here long-term is something I’m really proud of.

“I would like to thank the club, my partner Em, my family and my management for being so supportive throughout this process.

“I love what we as a club have achieved during my time here and I am super excited about what we can continue to achieve together.”

Duursma wants to be a Demon

North Melbourne’s Zane Duursma wants to join Melbourne.

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey reported earlier today that the former No.4 draft pick has told the Roos he wants out and will seek a trade to the Demons.

Duursma, who was drafted in 2023, has played 38 games in royal blue and white but has struggled for consistency.

His potential shift to the Dees comes after that club told veteran midfielder Jack Viney that he was free to explore his options despite having a contract until the end of 2028.

Essendon has immediately been linked to the premiership Dee.

Marshall tells Saints he wants trade

Rowan Marshall has told St Kilda he would like to depart the club.

The 30-year-old ruckman, who is contracted until the end of 2027, is seeking a fresh start elsewhere.

He has not chosen a preferred destination but has been heavily linked to Geelong as well as the Western Bulldogs.

“St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall has informed the club that he will seek a trade during the upcoming Trade Period,” red the club statement.

“Rowan is a highly valued member of the St Kilda Football Club and remains contracted until the end of 2027.

“Marshall has not nominated a preferred destination at this stage, with the club making clear that any trade will need to be in the best interests of the St Kilda Football Club.

“The club will now consider its options ahead of the Trade Period, which runs from Monday 5 October to Wednesday 14 October.”

Cats coach Chris Scott commented on Marshall at his press conference on Tuesday.

"If I was (interested), I wouldn't tell you," Scott told reporters.

"It's an unfortunate situation. I think everyone would like us all to be a bit more open, but I think it's got to the stage now (where) the communication should be driven by the players themselves.

"I don't think it's our place to sort of speak on their behalf so it's probably a question better directed at him.

"It's probably not appropriate for us to talk about an opposition contracted player.

"It's a bit different for the guys that are uncontracted, I guess."
