Race 2 – 5. Blue Rendezvous
I’m going to steer away from the very short favourites for my best and go with the first starter, Blue Rendezvous. Trainer Trent Wells has a great record with tried horses, and this 4yo is a relation of Tikken, who has won multiple races for Wells through winter. Kim Moore didn’t budge on the horse in a recent trial, and the horse he was beaten by has won multiple races. The booking of Craig Newitt is one of intent, and I’d expect Blue Rendezvous to run very well unless the market has a clearly different opinion.
Race 9 -2. Chicane
Chicane gets to a track and distance where he has placed in 10 of 14, including three wins. He found the 1150m a bit sharp first-up, crossing the line in a bunch for the minor placings behind Ozonica, who is very short odds for the opening race. From barrier 1, Chris Pang should secure the run of the race with a favourable weight swing on the early favourite, I’m Chev.
Race 7 – 9. Cool Conquest
I liked the return of Cool Conquest in Hobart, who has enjoyed a long break after a lengthy previous campaign. She jumped well in Hobart but was taken back and was doing her best work late to finish midfield. Her only career win came second up in Devonport, and she should land much closer to the speed from the rails draw over the 1350m. She looks way over the odds.
