Cleary learns judiciary fate over contact charge

The Match Review Committee has handed down its charges from Sunday's clash between the Panthers and the Roosters, with Nathan Cleary's dangerous contact charge on Hugo Savala considered Grade 1.

This means the Panthers superstar will only be fined $1,000, with an early plea making him available for Penrith's preliminary final.

The incident occurred in the final seconds of the first half, with Cleary making contact with Hugo Savala's leg after the Roosters halfback had kicked the ball, putting him in a dangerous situation, which saw referee Gerard Sutton sin-bin the 28-year-old.

Sydney were unable to capitalise on the scoreboard during the 10 minutes he was off, with the four-time premiership winner going on to kick a field goal to give his side an unassailable lead in their 19-12 win.

The Panthers will either face the Knights or Warriors in their Grand Final qualifier, with times and dates yet to be confirmed.
