Dolphins recieve contract boost ahead of maiden prelim

Selwyn Cobbo has committed his playing future to the Dolphins, with the club having signed a four-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2031.

Having joined the club from the Broncos on a one-year contract this year, the wing/centre has returned to his best form.

Across his 19 games with the Dolphins, Cobbo scored 18 tries (ranked 10th in the competition for tries scored), which saw him re-gain selection into Billy Slater’s Maroons squad and helped the side to their maiden finals appearance.

This marks his second contract extension in the year, having already signed a one-year deal in April which extended him through to 2027.

In a statement, Dolphins CEO Terry Reader believes Cobbo can make a great impact on the side in the long term.

“Selwyn has made an immediate impact since joining the Dolphins and what he has been able to produce in his first season at the club has been remarkable,” Reader said.

“It is clear the environment has really suited him and he is enjoying his football – and Selwyn’s performances are underlining that.

“At just 24 years of age we know there is still plenty of great football ahead of him, and we’re excited that will be in a Dolphins jersey.

“He has quickly become an important part of our team and to have a player of Selwyn’s calibre committed to the club through until the end of 2031 is a great result.”

The deal comes a week ahead of the Dolphins’ preliminary final clash against either Sydney or Cronulla at Suncorp Stadium.
