Signings watch: How much could Egan get on the open market?

With Wayde Egan considering going into the open market, Bryan Fletcher believes the hooker could create a frenzy for his services.

The former Panther has enjoyed yet another stellar year with the Wahs managing 12 try assists (equal second within his team), helping them place second on the ladder.

Signing a two-year extension in 2024 to remain with the Warriors, Egan’s contract is set to expire in 2027. This sees him able to speak with rival clubs from November 1.

The 29-year-old is yet to make a decision on his playing future, but the former Rooster and Rabbitoh thinks he commands a high price.  

“He's getting an eight ($800,000), there's an eight in front of it,” Fletcher said on SEN’s The Run Home with Joel and Fletch.

“(With) how it all is now around the ruck and players attack from the dummy half.

“If he comes on the open market, that would be a frenzy.

“He does things that no other hooker can do.”

But the 2002 Premiership winner did acknowledge that his injury history could impact his ability to command a top price.

“I suppose the only thing with Wayde Egan is he can get injured, you know, he's got a few head knocks in him,” he added.

Egan and the Warriors are set to face the Knights at Eden Park on Sunday.
