John Longmire makes call on vacant North Melbourne role

John Longmire has ruled himself out for the vacant North Melbourne coaching position.

It’s understood Longmire had multiple phone chats with Roos president Sonja Hood.

North CEO Jenn Watt sent through more details about the job in the last fortnight, before Longmire made the call on Monday not to pursue the gig.

This follows Adam Simpson’s identical decision last week.

It’s believed North footy boss Todd Viney suggested to the Simpson camp that although the process was open, their research told them that second time coaches are less likely to be successful.

Longmire never met with North Melbourne and it was his call to not pursue it, as it was with Simpson.

It’s understood Nathan Buckley, who would be a second time coach, has been doing his work on the North list, while Jaymie Graham, Corey Enright and Xavier Clarke have been mentioned as coaches in the mix to replace Alastair Clarkson.
