NZ Racing tips: Jayne Ivil's Wednesday best at Phar Lap Raceway (23/09)

New Zealand form analyst Jayne Ivil has given her best bets for racing in NZ this Wednesday.

On SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up, Ivil gave her thoughts on the Timaru meeting at Phar Lap Raceway.

Race 3: Maiden 1200m

10 – 12 – 11 - 5

Niccita finished 4th last start in the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes in just her second race day outing. She was wide (with cover) throughout and ran home strongly, the two-length margin doesn’t do the run justice as she was checked in the concluding stages and couldn’t be ridden out to the line. The race was won by Sweetest Thing who was a Group 1 performer as a two-year-old. Back in Maiden grade, this looks like a very winnable race.

Race 7: BM65 1200m

1 – 4 – 5 – 3

Brutal Riff comes into this race second up after a 4th placing fresh-up over 1400m. He did have some excuses last start, when the riders saddle slipped and he led the race at pace, going down a short margin in a very competitive finish. He looks suited to the step back to 1200m, a distance which saw him pick up his maiden victory.

Race 10: BM75 2200m

1 – 3 – 10 – 5

Balance Of Power comes out of a muddling run race last start; he originally settled in the trial but was shuffled back into a position where he was unable to build into the race at the top of the straight. He finished the race off well enough to suggest another win isn’t too far away. He is drawn to find a handy position in running and gets the benefit of a Hayley Hassman’s 1kg claim. The training partnership has found form in recent weeks and has begun the new season with a 20% winning strike rate.
