The Bomber exit rumour that "doesn't make sense"

Jordan Ridley has his eyes set on Geelong, but Liam Pickering thinks it’s a move that doesn’t make sense.

The former All-Australian Bomber has wanted out of Essendon for a number of years, last year looking further north before broadening his horizons ahead of this year’s trade period.

But with Geelong in his sights, former Cat Pickering – while understanding the player’s motivation to join Geelong – feels it’s a move that doesn’t work in Ridley’s favour.

“Jordan Ridley, I now see, is somehow linked to Geelong, which to me makes zero sense,” Pickering told The Trade Feed.

“I just don't see a need for him. I don't even know if he'll get a game there in defence. I'm serious.

“I'm looking at their defence and I'm going; that's not an area the ground that the Cats really struggle. Connor O'Sullivan, Zach Guthrie is a bloody good player.

“Tom Stewart. Sam De Koning, who's in and out a little bit but a pretty good player and 200 centimetres.

“Lawson Humphries isn't going anywhere. He’s not leaving.

“He should be looking at North - if North want him – and going, that's where I'm going to really help.

“I understand that he might think Geelong's a better fit, but I personally don't. If the Cats go after him, they go after him, but sometimes a player has got to choose.

“He's one of those players that has got to get his body right, and the Cats would back themselves in to get that right.

“And then I still think he's going to have to force out players that are pretty good.”
