Will Ethan Brown ride in The Everest or Caulfield Cup?

Ethan Brown faces a big decision with Jimmysstar now potentially heading to The Everest after his barnstorming win in the Manikato Stakes at Caulfield on Sunday.

Brown is already booked to partner Zahrann in the Caulfield Cup, with the gelding set to carry 53.5kg, but with the Caulfield Cup and Everest being held on the same day, the jockey could be forced to choose between two leading chances.

Brown joined SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up with Gareth Hall to discuss the situation, with no decision having been made on which horse he will ultimately partner.

“There’s no decision been made yet, the beauty of that is they’re two very good horses that are trained by Ciaron and owned by Ozzie,” Brown said.

“It will be moving day for Zahrann in the Turnbull on Saturday, so we will see where he is at after that run.”

The 53.5kg impost will also require Brown to get down from the weight he has been regularly riding at throughout the spring, but the jockey revealed he has already begun the process.

“Yeah I have, I started the process when Zahrann won his last start in the fashion he did, I’ve been training well and eating well so the 53.5kg should be no problem," Brown explained.

“To put the 53.5kg in perspective, I've been riding at around 55kg every Saturday for the races, so I'm well on track if that eventuated.”

Brown’s decision will likely become clearer following Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes, with Zahrann set to provide a crucial guide towards the Caulfield Cup.

With Jimmysstar now firmly in the Everest conversation following his dominant Manikato Stakes victory, Brown could soon find himself with a difficult choice between two major spring chances.
