David Taggart has discussed the highs and lows of his racing career as a Jockey, and how he redefined his place within the industry post scary and life-changing fall.

The highest of highs for 'Taggs' came in 2004 during the Flemington Spring Carnival on Oaks Day.

Nine years after his second last Group 1 win, Taggart had his special moment riding the winner in one of the most scintillating Group 1 Victorian Oaks ever in 2004 on Hollow Bullet.

With over 110,000 people packed into the track at Flemington riding his mate John McArdle’s horse to a Group 1 win, Hollow Bullet shattered the Victorian Oaks record with a time of 2:31.20.

“Johnny and I we played indoor cricket together, he was at Caufield where I was riding work,” Taggart said on This is Your Journey - thanks to Tobin Brothers.

“Next thing he got his license (Horse training license).

“Then I teamed up with Johnny, then he snagged a little filly called Hollow Bullet.

“I remember trialling her as a two-year-old… jeez we will get a quid out of this one.

“Then I end riding her next preparation and end up winning an Oaks on her.”

If you want to hear the rest of his story surrounding the other five Group 1 victories, the fall that shattered both his ankles and how he paved a new path for himself in the years following, listen to the full episode of This is Your Journey with David Taggart here.
