Whilst plenty of players are choosing to move clubs this time of year, Izak Rankine has chosen to remain with Adelaide, signing a massive five-year contract.

The deal comes fresh off the back of his second appearance in the All-Australian squad this season, as the Crows managed to win their first finals game under Matthew Nicks.

Rankine continued to establish himself as one of the competition's best players, averaging 24.4 disposals, 11 contested possessions, 5.2 clearances and 1.1 goals per game throughout the 2026 season.

His new contract won't kick in until the start of the 2028 season. This means his new deal will conclude at the end of 2032.

Reflecting on his decision to remain with the South Australian side, the 26-year-old was keen on repaying the faith Adelaide has shown in him since trading for the midfielder during the 2022 off-season.

“I grew up a diehard Crows supporter and playing here is all I’ve ever wanted,” Rankine said.

“The support from the Club, the connection I’ve built with our fans and the genuine love the people of Adelaide have shown me, it made this an easy decision.

“Now it’s about repaying that faith and helping this Club pursue Premiership success.

“That’s what our fans deserve.”

For the club's list manager and former Hawthorn premiership player Jarryd Roughead, the signing provides contract stability for one of their star players in the long term.

“To have a player of Izak’s calibre committed to our Club for the next six seasons is a fantastic result,” Roughead said.

“On the field, he brings a level of class and skill that elevates his teammates, particularly now that he’s made that move into the midfield… Look no further than the final third of the season to see just what he is capable of.

“And away from footy he is a high-quality person who brings a lot of energy and character to the locker room.

“We’re excited to see what he can achieve over the next six years for himself and for the Club.”
