Per Tom Morris, Hawthorn's Sam Butler is set to join the Gold Coast Suns.
The out-of-favour mid/forward struggled for games, mounting just eight this year and 33 in total.
Interest was expressed by the Suns, and the move is set to go through with little fuss.
Morris expects the deal to be done in the coming days.
GWS have signed former Blue Alex Mirkov from the VFL.
The ruckman was delisted by Carlton at the end of 2024, spending two years in the lower levels including a standout season with Williamstown in '26.
The Giants have signed the 210cm 26-year-old, adding ruck depth behind Nick Madden having lost Kieren Briggs to Richmond.
North Melbourne has tabled a monster EIGHT-YEAR deal for Nick Blakey, worth MORE than $11 million to join the club.
Pick 5 would have to be tabled for the Swans to consider shifting Blakey to the Roos.
Tom Morris is reporting that SEVEN clubs will be involved in a mega trade for Zak Butters.
Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide, Melbourne, Richmond, North Melbourne, Carlton, Hawthorn are all involved in these discussions.
The 'mega deal' will likely be executed in at least two stages, and involve several players as well as a flurry of draft picks.
It's all happening now!
Morris has added...
Tom Morris has revealed quite the nugget on wantaway Swan Nick Blakey.
The contracted Swan played padel with North Melbourne pair Dylan Stephens and Finn O'Sullivan.
Since the revelation, Cal Twomey has revealed that the Kangaroos have made a significant contract offer to the former Roo father-son.
Sydney's list boss Chris Keane has clarified the ongoing Nick Blakey rumours.
Where does the situation stand from the club’s perspective?
“Clearly there’s been some speculation about Nick over the last couple of weeks, it’s safe to say. We’re working through all of that with his management group at the moment. As I said on Monday, from our perspective, he is contracted and is a significant player for our footy club. That hasn’t changed,” he told Trade Radio.
Was the club aware that he would be meeting other clubs this week?
“No, it’s actually not something we were made aware of outside of what’s been reported online. What I will say is we do understand the current landscape in regard to players exploring opportunities, and how that’s probably shifted over the last few years in particular. Ultimately, he is contracted for five more years at our footy club for a reason. We saw last year that when that is the case, the club has the final say.”
Has he made clear to you that he will be seeking a trade?
“We haven’t heard that directly from Nick himself, but clearly there’s been some speculation around all of that over the last couple of weeks. What I’d say is I’m talking to Robbie, his manager, constantly, and will keep those conversations behind closed doors.”
Are you open to looking at trades if he does request to leave?
“As we sit here right now, these are all hypotheticals. It’s certainly not something we’ve actively pursued, and we feel confident that he can walk bac into our football club. But given the calibre of player that he is, and he is contracted for five more years, we feel like making any deal happen would be significantly challenging.”
Will he be at Sydney in 2027?
“That’s our preference. Our expectation on that one hasn’t changed since the start of the week. I’d say that that’s the most likely scenario – given his contract status and how challenging a trade would be given how highly we rate him.”
Rowan Marshall is a Cat!
It felt as though this one would extend through to deadline day, but the Cats have come to the table with a first-rounder and the Saints are satisfied!
Marshall heads to Geelong, alongside a future third-round pick, with St Kilda acquiring Pick 14 in exchange.
Done deal!
There it is.
After travelling to Gold Coast on Monday, touring the facilities and being promised a five-year deal, Aidan Schubert has officially requested a trade away from the Hawks.
The Suns successfully turned the young key's head, who was originally determined to remain at the Hawks.
This makes it likely that Gold Coast will match Hawthorn's contract offer for Ben King, forcing a trade.
Tom Mitchell floated the idea of St Kilda pursuing Jake Stringer on Channel 7's Agenda Setters on Wednesday night.
"If I'm St Kilda I'm picking up the phone to Jake Stringer and calling him for him to come to our club," Mitchell said.
"Because he kicked 48 goals last year. He’s looking for a fresh start and he’s clearly going to be their best goal kicker.
"Liam Ryan had a great season but 33 is not a lot of goals. If you want to be top six you need a lot more goals than that. And Stringer is the option for it.
"I think they should call Jake Stringer."
Kane Cornes agrees with that notion.
"I don't hate the idea of going down the Jake Stringer path," Cornes said on AFL Trade Radio.
"He would give them some more goals. We just don't know if he is a disrupter in that locker room. I don't hate it though for them."
Stringer booted 48 goals to lead the way for the Giants in 2026, before leaving the club as an unrestricted free agent.
Hawthorn’s Aidan Schubert is back in Melbourne after touring Gold Coast’s facilities on Tuesday.
AFL Media’s Cal Twomey is reporting that the emerging Hawk is set to make a massive call on his future in the next day or so.
Schubert, 18, has become a trade option only recently as the Hawks plan for life with departing Suns forward Ben King who is expected to join the brown and gold as a free agent.
Central District product Schubert is now weighing up a potential shift north with the Suns eager to force a trade surrounding King’s exit, even though it would be separate to the King deal.
Hawks legend Dermott Brereton said earlier this week that he believes Schubert is a player the club really likes, suggesting he’ll be one of their main key forwards in the coming years.
SEN's Tom Morris believes Schubert, who is contracted with Hawthorn until 2029, could be wearing red in 2027.
"He's warming to joining the Suns. I'd be very surprised if Aidan Schubert said no to the Gold Coast Suns," he said on Channel 7's Agenda Setters.
