Thoroughbred racing returns to the Ladbrokes Racing Centre Mowbray in Launceston on Friday night for an eight-race program.

The rail moves out to +3m after being in true for the meeting seven days ago.

Fine weather is forecast for Launceston, which should have the track in the 4-5 range.

Best bet

Race 8 – 2. Alpine Fury

Alpine Fury chases a winning hat-trick and looks well placed in the last race of the night. Daniel Ganderton controlled just a field of four last week and is presented here with a very similar setup. Alpine Fury has won three of four in Launceston, and the rise to a mile looks ideal third-up. In the small field, I’ve marked him a bit shorter than the $1.80 that’s on offer at the time of writing.

Next best

Race 1 – 4. Smithy

Smithy has started triple figures in all three career starts, hardly a strong SP profile. He improved considerably on the grass last start and was unlucky not to run into the placings. The wide draw isn’t a big negative for a horse that’s continually given a start away. With a well-timed ride from Luke Dempsey, I can see him running to the finish in what isn’t an overly strong maiden to start the night.

Best value

Race 2 – 9. Miss Strat

With a spruik around Olindah in the second race, we’re getting a good each-way price on Miss Strat. She was slow out resuming, which ended her winning chances in an on-pace-dominated affair. I liked how she hit the line there, though, and she’s shown an ability to take up a forward position early in her career.
