With the Wallabies seeking to win their first Bledisloe Cup in 24 years and their first win at Eden Park this century, Matt Burke believes the side is capable of pulling off the historic feat.
Since Les Kiss took over from Joe Schmidt as head coach, the World No. 6s have enjoyed a promising run of form, having yet to lose a game.
That five-game tenure has seen the Wallabies defeat Japan home and away, Argentina away, alongside a draw and the reigning back-to-back World Champions South Africa at Optus Stadium.
But now, under the former Queensland Reds coachfaces his greatest challenge in his brief time in charge.
Australia has lost its last 11 clashes against the All Blacks, with its last win against the Kiwis in New Zealand coming in 2001.
That losing record is also coupled with the Wallabies yet to beat their Trans-Tasman rivals at Eden Park in 40 years, where the first of their two Test series will be played.
However, the All Blacks don’t come into the series with the best form. In their four-match series against South Africa, the Springboks bounced back from losing the series opener to win 3-1.
And with pressure to perform, the legendary fullback thinks the Wallabies can harness that to their advantage with a strong start.
“Yeah, I can,” Burke said on SEN’s The Run Home with Joel and Fletch.
“Bookies are very much in favour of the All Blacks at home, and the record comes into that as well.
“I think there's a bit of pressure on the All Blacks at the moment, knowing that they've come off that South African series, 1-3, three on the trot that they've lost, that's unheard of down there.
“So, what they need to do is, is play well, start well, start fast, be aggressive, use Joey (Joseph Suaalii) on the kicking options, kick your goals when they're there, take the points on offer and just build that pressure.
“Knowing that, the 80 minutes doesn't stop at 74; against the All Blacks, you gotta play the whole way through. So, I can see it, absolutely.”
The Wallabies will look to break their Eden Park hoodoo against the All Blacks in the First Test on Saturday.
Kick-off takes place at 5:10pm AEDT.
The Second Test of the series takes place the following Saturday at Accor Stadium.
