St Kilda’s win-now attitude at the trade table landed them some quality players in the 2025 trade period.
Tom Morris believes they should have another swing in 2026.
With three days of the 2026 AFL Trade Period remaining, St Kilda have already re-established their push for additional talent.
It mirrors their attitude of last season, pushing to acquire Tom De Koning and Jack Silvagni from the Blues while trading for former Sun Sam Flanders and Eagle Liam Ryan.
This time around, the Saints are prepared to make some big calls; offering three first round picks to Sydney in exchange for Nick Blakey, St Kilda has its picks on the table as the club eyes off a top six finish in 2026.
With Collingwood reportedly shopping a number of their stars, Morris believes – if the money fits – that the Saints should be chips in.
“I love what St Kilda are doing. They are all in, they are having a crack,” Morris told Trade Radio.
“They don’t love the draft picks. I don't know what their salary cap looks like - I'd imagine it's fairly tight based on the payment for some other players, although if they wanted to pay Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, it would get even more tight.
“If I'm the Saints and I've got the money, and if they're into Jordan De Goey and Dan Houston, they should say, ‘here Collingwood, we've got Pick 10 and we've got Pick 16, bang bang. Let's go.’
“10 and 16 for Houston and De Goey. That's the approach that they're taking. Houston and De Goey - if you put them into the St Kilda line up it makes them better.”
Former Magpie Tom Mitchell questioned whether it would be enough to satisfy Collingwood.
“But as a package you think that works? Picks 10 and 16?” Mitchell questioned.
Morris: “I'm going to say yes, but I'd also say maybe the Saints want a later pick back from Collingwood as well.
“My point around all this is they don't love the draft picks anyway. So, you've got two players who, for whatever reason, are being talked about a fair bit.
“Collingwood's clearly open to dealing De Goey, and there's been noise around Houston. So just take the plunge!
“Just have a crack is my point. Don't sit on the fence. It's Ross Lyon’s last contract year.”
Early on Monday morning, Josh Jenkins reported that the Magpies are ‘aggressively shopping’ Dan Houston to other clubs, while the club has remained open to offers for De Goey as he approaches the final year of his deal.
