Should Geelong look to prise Jesse Hogan out of Melbourne?

2018-09-11T08:18+10:00

Garry Lyon has thrown up the possibility of Geelong looking to do a deal that could see them potentially land Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan.

Hogan, 23, is contracted to the Demons for another year, but with Cats struggling for avenues to goal outside of Tom Hawkins - and the future of Tim Kelly uncertain - Lyon thinks a blockbuster trade could be worth looking at.

SHOULD MELBOURNE ENTERTAIN THE THOUGHT OF TRADING JESSE HOGAN?

“If the Geelong footy club looked at it and said: ‘gee, we can’t kick goals,’” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“We’ve got Tom Hawkins, Daniel Menzel’s our second best goal kicker.

“Would they put together an offer that might make Melbourne say: ‘oh, hang on a minute.’

“Tim Kelly can maybe go back (to Perth), take the early pick from Freo and bundle it up with something else.

“Why wouldn’t Geelong do that?”

Lyon thinks it will be highly unlikely the Dees will entertain a trade involving Hogan, but believes it won't stop clubs from “aggressively putting the question” to Melbourne after the seeing emergence of young forward Sam Weideman.

“I think all the clubs would be looking at what Sam Weideman is doing at the moment and they will be asking the question to Melbourne,” Lyon added.

“I don’t think there will be any doubt about that.

“I reckon clubs will go to Melbourne now and aggressively put the question to them and ask them about Jesse.

"I think 17 other clubs will be coming to Melbourne with their shopping basket for Jesse Hogan.

“I think I know what the response from Melbourne will be: no interest, clear off, we’re happy and we love him.”

Hogan is currently sidelined with a foot injury.
