Melbourne midfielder Dom Tyson has revealed the message Demons veteran Jordan Lewis delivered to the playing group, to help ease the nerves in the lead-up to last Friday’s Elimination Final against Geelong.

“Jordan Lewis actually said something really good during the week, he said in regards to finals, you’re looking for something that’s not there,” Tyson told SEN’s Time On.

“You’re looking for something different and you won’t find it because everything is the same, just the stakes are higher.

“That’s the only thing that is different. He said don’t go looking for something that isn’t there.

“When I heard him say that earlier in the week, I just thought, let’s just prepare as normal.

“Obviously the crowd will be loud and there will be probably 90,000 at the game but we have played in front of that a couple times before now, so it was just literally like riding a bike.

“When the siren sounds, it’s just what you’ve done for 15 years, including junior career.”

However, co-captain Jack Viney was still feeling the nerves before the bounce, but says the experience will help the club be better prepared for this week’s battle with Hawthorn in the Semi-Final.

“I was nervous as hell and I’m considered to be one of the more experienced boys here,” Viney said.

“I’m the co-captain of this football club and even I was like, if I’m feeling this way, I’m supposed to be leading and trying to fill confidence in the young boys.

“No doubt it’s just going to ease the nerves, people are going to know what to expect.”
