Will the AFL Commission knock back larger goal square?

2018-09-13T19:02+10:00

SEN Time On host Sam McClure says if there is a recommendation the AFL Commission declines, it could be the 18-metre goal square.

The competition committee made a number of recommendations to the AFL Commission today, but McClure says the larger goal square may not be implemented.

AFL COMPETITION COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS REVEALED

“I reckon if there is one thing that’s more likely to get knocked back than the others, I reckon it will be the goal square,” he told The Match Committee.

“I think there are people inside the AFL Commission who don’t like the aesthetics of the bigger goal square.”

AFL champion Dermott Brereton doesn’t think an extended goal square will make a massive difference on the game.

“I think it will change footy for about 12 seconds,” he told SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“It just means the ball will go further into play and it will have a hang time of three seconds, and within seven or eight seconds, the rest of the crew will get there.

“They will just set up to counteract it.”
