Adelaide star Izak Rankine will miss approximately three weeks after scans revealed the extent of his hamstring injury.

The forward/midfielder suffered the blow in the final minute of Saturday’s loss to Collingwood as he sprinted down the MCG wing.

Assistant coach Nathan Van Berlo confirmed the severity of the injury, with the club disappointed to lose Rankine who is in brilliant form.

"Speaking to (high-performance boss) Darren (Burgess) we believe it's similar in nature to what he did last year and it will be around about the three-week mark," Van Berlo said via a statement.

"He's (Rankine) been playing some outstanding footy and (it was) arguably the best game I've seen him play on the weekend, just his ability to win the footy, hit the scoreboard and he's been doing that for weeks on end now for us, so it's going to be a big loss for us in the interim.

"But I guess all we can do is hope that he comes back fresh and ready to go and attack the remainder of the year for us."

Prior to the injury, Rankine was dominant in Saturday’s loss, tallying 30 disposals, eight clearances and a goal.

Rankine has thrived in recent weeks after playing more midfield time but is still averaging two goals a game in 2024.

If he misses three weeks, he’ll return for Adelaide’s Round 14 clash against Sydney at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday, June 15.
