SEN WA host Mark Duffield expects some movement to occur in the coming days and weeks on the Elliot Yeo contract front.
The star Eagle enters unrestricted free agency this off-season and has been linked with all of Adelaide, North Melbourne, Collingwood and Brisbane.
While the 30-year-old could no doubt earn big money if he made a move, Duffield thinks that Yeo is now more likely to stay put in Perth instead of moving despite it looking like a 50-50 just last week.
“There might be a little bit of movement from a West Coast point of view on the Elliot Yeo contract front,” Duffield said on SEN WA Mornings*.
“Watch this space I think, I think maybe last week it was very much 50-50.
“But I get the feeling now that he’s possibly more likely to stay.
“Maybe a little bit of that unfolds in the coming days and weeks.”
Duffield thinks that West Coast would be smart to fight tooth and nail to keep Yeo as it could assist Harley Reid in his development.
While Reid is currently playing second-fiddle to Yeo on-ball, he expects those roles to change in the coming years as the No. 1 pick continues to progress.
“I think it’d be really important for Harley Reid (to have Yeo at the club),” Duffield said.
“Right now, he’s Elliot Yeo’s wingman and over the next couple of seasons Elliot Yeo will become his wingman.
“He can be the big body that makes sure he doesn’t get beaten up too much and pushed around too much.”
Yeo has played 11 games so far in 2024 and is averaging 23.1 disposals to go with 7.6 clearances.
The Eagles next face Essendon at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
