North Melbourne young gun Harry Sheezel has weighed in on the best player in the AFL right now.
With several big names enjoying dominant 2024 campaigns, there are a few players jostling for the No. 1 spot and SEN host Dwayne Russell asked Sheezel the big question, throwing up Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli, Blues skipper Patrick Cripps and Magpies gun Nick Daicos as potential options.
His pick was one of those names in Bontempelli who had 35 disposals, 11 clearances and seven inside 50s just last Saturday against Sheezel and the Roos.
“It's tough, I feel like I change every week now after seeing what they do,” Sheezel told SEN Afternoons.
“(Patrick) Cripps again (against Richmond) had 40 and a goal. Nick Daicos had 32 and a couple of goals and ‘Bont’ obviously tore us apart in the first quarter and a bit and then dominated all game.
“It’s really tough, they’re all incredible players.
“But if I probably had to say one at the moment and because of what he's done the last five or six years, I'd have to say ‘The Bont’.
“He's just so mobile for someone that size to play on ball…
“His arms with how strong he is, his craft and his reaction time is just pretty special.”
Sheezel might soon find himself in that conversation as he rates sixth in the competition across the last five games in official player ratings.
The only players in front of him across that stretch are Tom De Koning, Bontempelli, Cripps, Daicos and Max Holmes.
