“Nothing in it”: Why Zorko doesn’t think Cameron deserves ban for dangerous tackle

Brisbane veteran Dayne Zorko doesn’t think his teammate Charlie Cameron should be suspended for his tackle that concussed West Coast co-captain Liam Duggan.

The tackle occurred in the second term with Cameron driving Duggan into the ground forcefully after tackling him front-on. The pair’s heads clashed before Duggan’s head was driven into the ground, leaving the Eagle dazed before he was subbed out with concussion.

Cameron will learn his fate from the MRO today and could be looking at a grading of careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.

Such a grading would result in the Lion being sent to the Tribunal to face a ban of three or more weeks.

While Cameron would no doubt be nervous ahead of the decision, Zorko thinks his teammate doesn’t have a case to answer for.

“I hope not,” Zorko said on SENQ Breakfast about whether he thinks Cameron will be banned.

“I mean, he's just laid a tackle. I don't know what else he's supposed to do.

“The angles that I've seen it looks pretty clear that there's no intent and no malice in it, he's just simply laid a tackle.

“Unfortunately, due to the ferocity of it, he's bumped his head. But for mine, there was nothing in it.

“The different angles and replays I've seen, it's all good from my end.”

A potential ban would rule Cameron out for at least the club’s next three games which come against Sydney at the Gabba, Gold Coast at People First Stadium and St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.

The Lions are now fourth on the ladder through 17 games having won their last six.
