Why North Melbourne star feels Bedford & Cameron AFL Tribunal sanctions are “very harsh”

North Melbourne star Harry Sheezel feels Charlie Cameron and Toby Bedford were harshly treated by the MRO and the AFL Tribunal.

Both received three-game bans for dangerous tackles over the weekend and both clubs are set to head to the AFL Appeals Board.

Sheezel says the length of the bans is severe and not what players were copping earlier in the year.

“I think it’s pretty crazy the way it’s adjudicated now and the way it has changed so much,” Sheezel told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“Even the penalties have now changed. Like I feel like earlier in the year, the incidents on the weekend, there’s no way players were getting three weeks for that earlier in the year.

“That just makes it even more difficult as a player because it’s such a complex game and it’s a contest game and we’ve always tackled differently I guess.

“The fact that the penalties are changing during the year makes it harder for the players and I think players are trying to protect each other’s heads. The Bedford one and the Cameron one, they didn’t have any intent to hurt, it’s just the way they tackled and that’s how it went for them.

“I think three weeks is very harsh for them.”

At this stage in time, both Bedford and Cameron will be sidelined for three weeks unless the Giants and Lions are successful with their respective appeals.

Sheezel and the Roos take on Carlton this Sunday afternoon.
