Star jockey Tommy Berry has outlined two gallopers he’s looking forward to riding at Randwick on Saturday.

The first of those rides is High Octane for trainers Peter & Paul Snowden who races first-up after a jam-packed two-year-old season that saw him race in the Blue Diamond last start (in February).

He now returns to the races after two trials and Berry expects him to be very competitive.

“I’m on High Octane and he’s come back and trialled really nicely on two occasions,” Berry told SENTrack.

“He’ll run in the three-year-old race, he’s quite untapped at the moment and was very raw with what he was doing last preparation, and I wasn’t here for his first trial but I remember sending the manager a message saying ‘jeez have a look at that High Octane, he looked quite good’.

“We were able to jump on him at his recent trial and he’s deadest built like a gorilla as he’s so big and strong.

“He’s a lovely individual to look at and as I said in his trials he’s really impressed me but raceday is where we’re going to see where he’s at.

“He’s going to meet a good field on Saturday and it’s going to be a good test.”

The second of the runners is Communist for Michael Freedman.

Racing on the back of two forward trials, Berry says the Freedman camp intend to have him firing early in his campaign as a way of having the fitness edge first-up against some key rivals who proved too good for him during the end of last year.

“I also ride Communist who is in the spring preview,” Berry added.

“He’ll go around in that, he’s a gelding now and has trialled really well on two occasions against some high-quality horses.

“This is a nice stepping stone for him and he’s quite fit as we’ve aimed to have him really fit first-up and get a bit of a jump on the horses that proved to be too good for him over the autumn.

“He looks to have come back in great order and I’m looking forward to a couple of those guys coming back this Saturday.”
