Fev snags six, Brown takes a hanger, Ballantyne dominates as Vics edge All Stars

Victoria defeated the All Stars 95-73 in the State of Origin for On The Menu match on Wednesday night.

In blustery conditions on a cold night at Gosch’s Paddock, the Vics outlasted the All Stars by 22 points in a spirited showing with former stars of the game everywhere to be seen.

The AFL 9s format led to a lack of intensity early before the lads warmed up and got stuck in as the game progressed.

Carlton great Brendan Fevola put on a clinic with six goals while Victorian captain and birthday boy Campbell Brown took a nice hanger over Dennis Armfield in the fourth quarter. He also booted three majors after a late shift forward.

For the All Stars, Fremantle cult hero Hayden Ballantyne was hard to contain up forward win a dominant showing and Port Adelaide premiership defender Darryl Wakelin made his presence felt as a key forward.

There will be critics everywhere eager to review the performance of All Stars skipper Kane Cornes who was quite despite kicking a first-quarter goal.
