Kane Cornes has called on Brisbane’s Charlie Cameron to light up the Lions' Semi-Final contest this Saturday night.
Coming off a 37-goal season and two goals in last week’s Elimination Final victory over the Blues, Cameron has struggled to consistently impose his explosive nature on a contest in 2024.
With everything to play for against the Giants, Cornes has tasked the two-time All-Australian with putting his best on display.
“When is Charlie Cameron just going to rip a game apart again,” Cornes questioned on SEN Fireball Friday.
“The last time Charlie Cameron has ripped a game to shreds, like three or four plus (goals), pressure, excitement, I see flashes.
“He’s one of the most watchable players in football, I love watching him play I think he’s so important, but when has he ripped a game?”
David King uncovered Cameron’s recent performances against the upper echelon of the competition, of which Charlie was not quite able to dominate as he has in the past.
King: “If you look at it against the best sides, so trim the fat a little bit, he kicked two against Carlton, kicked three against the Bombers, GWS last time he kicked the one, one against Sydney, two against Port Adelaide.
Cornes: “It’s your ones and your twos this year, and we’re not just going to judge it on goals.
“I just cannot remember the last time we have gone ‘he was the difference for Brisbane on this game’, and he is good enough to be the difference.”
With the Giants to come this Saturday, Cornes hopes that Cameron is able to heavily influence the contest in a win or go home scenario.
“I’m looking at a matchup that he is going to love,” he continued.
“I’m not sure who it is, maybe it’s (Connor) Idun, maybe it’s a (Harry) Perryman type, someone that he’s just going to destroy for athleticism.
“That’s who I’ve got in the gun, I’d love to see it, I think he’s a really important and infectious player.
“I would love to see him kick three and have a really influential game, three in a final is a big result.
“I think we have let him off the hook a little bit this year with his form, and maybe there has been some distractions but now we’re in September, this is where the big boys come to earn their money.
“I think he’s got to play really well and influence the game.”
All eyes on Charlie as the much-anticipated Semi-Final kicks off this Saturday night at ENGIE Stadium.
