“My goodness me”: The delisted midfielder dominating pre-season training

Melbourne great David Schwarz has been incredibly impressed by Jai Culley, watching his old team train over summer.

Culley has been training with the Demons in the hopes of earning a list spot after being delisted by West Coast.

After being selected with pick one in the 2022 Mid-Season Draft, the midfielder played 12 games for the Eagles, with a torn ACL derailing his opportunity.

However, Schwarz has loved watching him train with the Dees over summer, saying he has been competing with the likes of Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver and holding his own.

“Can I give you tell you the kid who is tearing up the track at Melbourne more than anyone? Jai Culley,” Schwarz told SEN WA Breakfast.

“My goodness me. How West Coast let him go is unfathomable. Unfathomable.

“I have watched a lot of their footy this pre-season. He would be in the best two or three and head-to-head with the best midfielders at Melbourne, showing them what he can do.

“He’s not on the list at the moment, but they’ve just had Shane McAdam go down for the year and a spot might open up and if it does, West Coast might just be rueing the fact that they let him go.”

Melbourne will no longer be able to list Culley, using McAdam’s vacant list spot to sign Werribee VFL star Jack Henderson, who, coincidentally, played in West Coast’s scratch match against Richmond.

Teams still with vacant list spots to fill include Carlton, Essendon and the Western Bulldogs.
