Former Australia Test captain and SEN Tassie Breakfast host Tim Paine has been named the new head coach of Australia A cricket.

The exciting new role means Paine will assist the national side in their future development.

Paine, who represented the national side between 2009 and 2021, is a great addition to Australia’s coaching barracks and will bring precious experience to the future of Australian cricket.

Confirming the news on SEN Tassie on Friday morning, Paine said: "Next Friday will be my last show.

"It’s time to spread my wings.

"I've been working with Australia A as an assistant coach and the opportunity has come up for me to be the head coach.

"I feel like it’s a hard balancing act to pursue a coaching career and talk in the media. The best way forward now is with one and the opportunity CA has given me to develop my coaching is a really good one.

"The Australia A program is very exciting, there’s a lot of young talent to work with. It’s something I really enjoy doing. I’m very lucky and I’m really looking forward to the next part of my journey.

Paine confirmed he would remain in place as coach of the Adelaide Strikers BBL team.

Reflecting on his time with SEN, he added: "I have thoroughly enjoyed the last few years. I want to thank our listeners. We feel like we’ve had fun building Tassie Brekkie and it’s been a pleasure.

"It’s really exciting to work in this space.

"A lot of us get to go to work, even when I’m coaching in the BBL, I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of that, but I can honestly say I haven’t had too many jobs that I genuinely enjoy what I’m doing.

"If you can find things you enjoy it makes getting out of bed easier. I’ve loved doing this job and I’m sure it won’t be the last time I do it."

SEN CEO Craig Hutchison would release a statement about Paine's departure from the network congratulating him on his new position and thanking him for his service.

“We congratulate Tim on his elevation to Australian A coach, where he’ll play a pivotal role in the next phase of Australian cricket success," Hutchison said.

“Tim has been a key part in the success of SEN Tassie.

“We look forward to announcing a new permanent co host for Brent Costello, the state’s leading sports journalist and presenter, in due course and building on the strong platform in breakfast laid by Tim and Brent over the past couple of years.”
