After suffering one of the biggest upsets in Test cricket history last week, Australia has started the Second Test against Bangladesh in Mackay on fire courtesy of a clinical Mitchell Starc performance.
It’s been a week of scrutiny for the World No. 1 Test side after suffering a nine-wicket defeat to the Tigers in their first Test match at Marrara Stadium, Darwin, in 22 years, with plenty of questions raised about the hosts’ batting.
Hoping to avoid a series defeat against Bangladesh, Australia, which made the one change to its XI, elected to bowl first, which proved to be a fruitful decision.
With Starc given the new ball, he brought immediate success with Shadman Islam edging a ball into the hands of Cameron Green on the first ball of the innings.
The wickets continued to roll for the left-arm quick in his next over, managing to take a further two wickets, seeing Bangladesh in disarray.
The visitors were unable to stop the tailspin caused by the New South Welshman, who had secured a five-wicket haul in the space of 22 balls.
Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood also joined in on the fun, with the Test captain picking up three wickets for the cost of 25 runs while Hazlewood snared the wicket of Hasan Mahmud.
And having got a wicket with the first ball, Starc closed out the innings with a wicket on the final ball, seeing Bangladesh all out for 64 and the 36-year-old finish with figures of 6/12.
That marks the Tigers’ fourth-lowest Test innings total in their history.
