“Wally-like”: Webster’s high praise of Queensland player

The Australian and SEN’s Andrew Webster has given one of the highest compliments possible to a Queensland player following Game II.

That player would be Queensland's newly appointed captain in Cameron Munster.

Munster was electric as captain for the Maroons in Game II, scoring a try, running for 130 meters, and achieving a 91.3% tackle efficiency rate, which helped Queensland tie the series.

His performance has been noted throughout the week with Matty Johns putting the Storm five-eighth in his top five State of Origin players of all time.

On SEN’s Saturday League Kick-Off, Webster would go as far as to compare Munster with the sixth Immortal.

And he isn't the only one to make it.

“It was one of the biggest calls in Origin history to sack Daly Cherry Evans as halfback and captain after one game,” Webster noted.

“Queensland had some great performers, Harry Grant in particular but the way that Munster just took control of that game and dragged Queensland with them in the first half was very Wally-like.

“I didn’t know this the last couple of days but Wally Lewis at a function recently, (and) said that he is the player that reminds him most of himself.

“The way that Munster can take control of a game reminds me of Wally from all of those years as a beaten and battered New South Wales supporter in the 80s and 90s watching Wally Lewis taking us apart.

“And that’s what Cameron Munster is to me.”

Munster will be hoping to follow in Lewis’ footsteps and lift the shield following Game III.

The decider will take place on July 9 at Accor Stadium.
