Port Adelaide’s Willie Rioli has retired from the AFL.

At the age of 30, Rioli’s decision comes as somewhat of a surprise given he was contracted for 2026.

He kicked 27 goals from 19 games in 2025, second only to Mitch Georgiades who booted 58.

The 2018 West Coast premiership player says it’s time to step aside for the Power’s emerging small forwards.

“I have given all I can to the game at the highest level,” Rioli said in a club statement.

“I made up my mind a couple of weeks ago that this would be my last season.

“I want to see even more opportunities given to our young, talented small forwards at Port Adelaide in Joe Berry and Tom Cochrane.

“They're the future of our club. It's time for me to step aside.”

Rioli debuted with the Eagles in 2018 after he was selected with Pick 52 in the 2016 draft.

He played 51 games and kicked 60 goals in royal blue and gold, including the '18 flag triumph over Collingwood.

Rioli, who was hit with a two-year ban for tampering with a urine sample, moved to Port prior to the 2023 season.

At the Power he played 57 games for 91 goals. His career tally finishes on 108 games and 161 goals.

Former first-round pick among five Port delistings

Port has commenced their list changes following a disappointing 2025, delisting five players just days after their final game.

Ryan Burton, Jeremy Finlayson, Lachie Charleson, Dylan Williams and Hugh Jackson have been let go by the Power, marking the first changes made under new head coach Josh Carr.

"Ryan and Jeremy have both, at times, played important roles for our AFL side, offering versatility and depth when we’ve required it," list manager Jason Cripps said.

"Dylan and Hugh showed some positive development over the past few years, with both earning opportunities at the top level, while Lachie was a solid contributor to our SANFL program and showed great commitment to the club in his two years on the list.

"We wish all five players the very best for their futures."

Burton played 115 games for the club and was a vital piece throughout their successful runs over his seven years at the club.

Finlayson managed 62 games across four seasons with the club, while the remaining thee struggled for game time across their respective careers in South Australia.
