De Goey escapes with a fine after careless QF bump

Magpie Jordan De Goey has escaped with a fine following a risky bump on Adelaide's Josh Worrell.

While no players were obviously injured or concussed on the night, De Goey collected Josh Worrell high with his shoulder as he went to close space and smother.

The knock was considered a careless bump, low impact and a fine, costing the Magpie a $2000 fine however granting freedom to play in Collingwood's upcoming Preliminary Final.

While some could see Christian handing down a medium impact grade, SEN Breakfast’s David King is certain that the Magpie star has absolutely nothing to worry about and shouldn’t even be fined.

“My dig is at people trying to rub guys out for prelims,” King said. 

“Jordan De Goey, there is no case to answer there, and they shouldn't even fine him. 

“I've looked at it, and I'm just saying, don't bother trying to rub him out for a final. 

“It ain't happening.”

Another incident that King thinks is similar to the De Goey bump and shouldn’t receive a suspension concerns Josh Worrell, who collected Lachie Schultz high while trying to pick up a ground ball, resulting in a free kick.

“I think it’s very similar to the De Goey one,” King said.

“If you suspend one, you’ve got to suspend the other.

“I don’t think either player will miss for that contact.”

Worrell was not cited for the incident.

The other incident that may receive some kind of sanction relates to Mark Keane, who appeared to try and collect Steele Sidebottom high with an elbow directed at the head.

Kane Cornes thinks the Irishman is incredibly lucky not to hit Sidebottom as he appeared to intend, otherwise, he’d be looking at a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

“I just thought Mark Keane raising the elbow trying to collect Steele Sidebottom was one of the stupidest things I've seen in a final,” Cornes said.

“He’s very, very lucky that he didn't connect. He just grazed his shoulder. 

“If that had made contact with the head, we're looking at six weeks, so it’s incredibly lucky.”

The MRO slapped Keane with a $10,000 fine ($6250 with an early plea) for the incident.
