The first of four consecutive meetings on the Devonport synthetic begins this Sunday.
It's a competitive eight-race card with the first race scheduled for 13:00. See the best bets, courtesy of Tasracing.com.au.
Race 6 – 4. Mastretta
Sunday’s card looks particularly competitive, and I found it hard to find standout runners. I’ve landed on Mastretta as my best. She’s a classy mare who has raced without luck at different stages, and I thought she went like a horse that will benefit from her first-up run. She maps well and will appreciate 1.5kg off her back from last start, and if she jumps well, she’ll enjoy the run of the race.
Race 5 – 3. Agnete
Agnete returned with a last-to-first win in Launceston and was a complete forgive run at this track last start. That was the only time she’s missed the quinella in Devonport, and I think she’s far better suited at 1350m. Barrier six is potentially tricky for Codi Jordan, but I’m confident that if she can find cover that Agnete will figure in the finish.
Race 1 – 6. African Thunder
It’s a small field in the opener, and these types of races aren’t always run to script. African Thunder came through the same race as the likely favourite Tuskegee and has a 5.5kg swing in his favour, with Lizzie Annells being replaced by in-form apprentice Sam Kennedy. African Thunder’s subsequent run in Hobart had merit, and he’s a previous Devonport winner. Given his SP profile, I expect big odds, and he’ll get me for something in the first of the day.
