Melbourne’s Christian Petracca has chosen the Gold Coast Suns.
Tom Morris has reported that the Demons star wants to be traded to the Suns after being impressed by Damien Hardwick.
He also met with the Adelaide Crows but with the Suns is where he wants to play.
“I can tell you right now that Christian Petracca has chosen the Gold Coast Suns,” Morris said on AFL Trade Radio.
“So he wants to be traded to the Gold Coast Suns. He met with Adelaide, he met with the Suns, he was super impressed with Damien Hardwick’s vision.
“In the end he chose the Suns over the Crows which is a massive feather in the Suns’ cap.”
Kane Cornes says it’s a huge coup for the Suns who now need to work out how to get a trade done.
“When you look at the evolution of that footy club and where they are and where they have got to now to be a destination club where a star of the competition is keen to go there over the likes of Adelaide,” he said.
“So, how do they get it done? This will get done?”
Morris says current Sun Sam Flanders as well as Pick 7 in the draft could both play a part in getting Petracca to Gold Coast.
“I think if Sam Flanders chooses St Kilda - which I still think is the most likely option - then that Pick 7 goes to Gold Coast and I think it’s a fairly straightforward deal,” Morris added.
“I think Pick 7 is a big part of the trade that sends Petracca from Melbourne to the Suns. Then from there, do Melbourne want more for that? I’m not sure.
“This is the perfect scenario for the Dees. If they’re going to lose Petracca, they lose him to the Suns and the Suns have the picks, they’ve also got Flanders. So potentially, if Flanders chooses Melbourne, then that could be part of the trade as well. It does make things a hell of a lot easier.
“Who would have thought four or five years ago that Christian Petracca would want to play for the suns.
“It’s quite incredible.”
