Steve Smith is out of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide due to illness.

The superstar batted on Wednesday morning before chatting with coach Andrew McDonald and Pat Cummins on the playing surface during the side’s warm-up.

After that discussion, he immediately headed back to the rooms and subsequently headed back to the team hotel.

Smith was unwell on Monday and missed training but trained on Tuesday, albeit not at 100 per cent. SEN Cricket's Bharat Sundaresan also stated that he's hearing Smith is suffering from vertigo. The batter missed a 2023 World Cup game due to that issue.

Cricket Australia say Smith suffered symptoms including nausea and dizziness.

"Steve Smith was ruled out of the third NRMA Ashes test in Adelaide today. Over the past few days he has been feeling unwell, with symptoms including nausea and dizziness," Cricket Australia said via a statement.

"He was assessed and monitored closely and was close to being available to play. However, given the persistence of symptoms, a decision was made not to proceed.

"He is being treated for a potential vestibular issue. This is something Steve has experienced intermittently in the past and is being managed accordingly. He is expected to be available for the Boxing Day test in Melbourne."

Khawaja replaces Smith at No.4 in the batting order. Travis Head and Jake Weatherald remain at the top.

Australia will bat first after losing the toss in Adelaide.

The first ball is set for 10:30 am AEDT. Listen to every ball of the Adelaide Test LIVE on SEN – your home of cricket.
