"Ball of dreams" sees Lyon jump McGrath in all-time wickets

Nathan Lyon has officially surpassed Glenn McGrath, claiming second spot in all-time Australian Test wickets with a masterful delivery.

The timeless off-spinner re-joined the Test XI in Adelaide, breaking the Aussies' pace quartet to take the place of Michael Neser for the third Ashes Test, and his first over alone was enough to justify selectors' decision.

With his third ball of the 10th over at Adelaide Oval, Lyon sent Ollie Pope packing, as the England number three gifted his wicket with a poor shot to outside off. Caught by Josh Inglis, Lyon moved level with Glenn McGrath, taking his 563rd Test wicket.

And just three balls later, Lyon bowled a peach of a delivery to England opener Ben Duckett, beating the edge to lift the bail from off stump. Two wickets in his first over, and Lyon passes Glenn McGrath to become Australia's second-leading Test wicket-taker of all-time with 564 poles.

"That is the stuff you dream of as a finger spinner, boy oh boy what a piece of bowling!" said Adam Collins on the SEN Cricket call.

Lyon remains 144 wickets behind Australia's greatest in Shane Warne, moving into second place at his statistically best stadium. Across his 15 matches at Adelaide Oval, Lyon has now taken 66 wickets at the gloried venue, the most of any in the history of Test cricket.
