Tom Stockdale was the jockey who partnered with the Ciaron Maher-trained two-year-old Unit Five on his debut run two weeks ago in the Magic Millions Vic 2YO Classic (1100m).
The colt started as the favourite in that race and went on to win comfortably by 2.5 lengths.
Now the son of Supido will be heading to the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) and is currently $9 with Sportsbet to win that sprint.
Alongside Unit Five will be Tom Stockdale again who will jockey the youngster for his second start and hope to take out the Restricted Listed race.
Speaking on RSN’s Correct Weight, the hoop revealed that Unit Five is an incredibly talented colt, however he needs to iron out a few kinks in his upcoming trial, if he is to win the Magic Millions.
“I'm excited to be going up there and partnering with him. The team have told me he's coming for the run really well,” Stockdale said.
“It'd be great to get him on his other leg (in his trial) and see what he's learnt from his first start.
“He's quite a natural runner which is what you want to see with two-year-olds, but there was a couple of kinks that I noticed that need to be ironed out.
“So, I'm hoping he's taken a bit out of his first start, and he can show an improved gallop in his trial.”
Stockdale then went into detail about one of those kinks, explaining that the colt was very curious on his debut run, not fully paying attention to the job at hand.
“Just everything in his surroundings is quite new,” Stockdale said.
“He was having a good look around at his surroundings, rather than being on the job and being a proper racehorse.
“He has all the natural talent in the world; you'd hope to see him coming out of that run focused and on the job.”
Warwoven currently leads the market for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic as the $2 favourite.
