Young Crow Dan Curtin will go under the knife after dislocating his kneecap during a pre-season wrestling drill on Monday.

Vision out of Adelaide's camp showed the former first-round pick leave the ground on a cart following a mishap during the drill, with the club later confirming that the young star had suffered a dislocation to his left kneecap.

7News Adelaide provided this footage of the incident as it happened, with captain Jordan Dawson engaged in the tussle that led to Curtin's injury.

It has since been confirmed by the club that Curtin will go under the knife to repair the injured knee.

The Crows released this statement on Wednesday afternoon:

Adelaide utility Dan Curtin will undergo surgery after dislocating his left kneecap during pre-season training on Monday.

Scans confirmed the 20-year-old has avoided any bone or ligament damage however, given Curtin has had some issues with his left knee previously, the decision has been made to proceed with surgery to help stabilise the knee.

Crows High Performance Manager Ian McKeown said Curtin will have surgery this week.

“We are thankful Dan has avoided any bone or ligament damage in the dislocation,” McKeown said.

“However, Dan has had several partial dislocations previously, dating back to his junior basketball days.

“Given this, it’s been determined the best course of action is to undertake a procedure which will provide more support and stability around the patella.

“The Club will have a better understanding of the rehabilitation timeframe following surgery, however the general expectation for this type of procedure is that he will return between Rounds 7 and 9 of the AFL season.”

The 20-year-old was said to have been a major standout across the Crows' pre-season, with images and notes suggesting that he was preparing for a shift into the midfield in 2026.
