Australia’s poor start to the T20 World Cup warm-up series has been overshadowed by the questionable bowling of Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq.

The Aussies fell to 0-2 against Pakistan in what was their worst T20I defeat since 2005, bowled out for just 108 to lose by 90 runs less than a week out from the World Cup opener.

Facing Pakistan’s five-spin attack, Australia simply couldn’t find rhythm at the crease, with Cam Green leading all-comers with just 35 runs. That said, it was Green’s dismissal that has sparked controversy, with Usman Tariq once again under the microscope.

The right-arm off-spinner has come under fire on numerous occasions for his unorthodox bowling action, however, has been cleared by the ICC and the PCB despite being reported during the PSL in 2025.

After his dismissal, Green was seen accusing Tariq of chucking.

Tariq has formerly defended his action, stating: “There are two corners on my (elbow) which makes it hard for me to straighten,” he said.

“That makes confusion for the spectators, I have given two tests at labs in Pakistan, my action was cleared.”

Australia's capitulation in Lahore has raised concerns ahead of the World Cup, however, captain Mitch Marsh taking strong lessons following their dismantling.

“Pakistan outplayed us. Hopefully we can improve and come back tomorrow,” said Marsh.

“We have got experienced guys who know that partnerships are really important in run-chases. We were not able to do that today. So some really good lessons.”

Australia are set to face Ireland in their opening T20 World Cup clash on Wednesday February 11.
