Penis injections: Winter Olympic cheating scandal erupts

The World Anti Doping Authority has confirmed they will investigate reports that ski jumpers at the Winter Olympics are using injections to artificially enhance the size of their penises to help with performance.

"Ski jumping is very popular in Poland," WADA president Witold Bańka said. "I promise I will look at it."

While the whispers have sparked more than a few smirks around the Milan Cortina media centre, the speculation came off the back of a report in German publication Bild which suggested skiers were injecting hyaluronic acid into their penises to enlarge them.

In layman’s terms, if their penis is larger, they will need a bigger suit which would then increase the surface area and therefore help their flight.

It has been compared to a larger wing suit helping skydivers glide longer distances.

"I am not aware of the details of ski jumping and how this can help," WADA director-general Olivier Niggli said at WADA's press conference in Milan.

"If anything were to come to the surface, we would look at anything if it were doping-related. "Our list committee would certainly look into whether this would fall in this category, but I haven't heard about this until you mentioned it."

Suit manipulation in ski jumping has been rife in recent years, with officials now microchipping suits to ensure they are not altered after being assessed.

At the Winter Olympics in Beijing, five female athletes were disqualified for competing in over sized suits while this year Slovenian jumper Timi Zajc was DQ’d for wearing an ill fitting suit.

In 2025 Norway’s Olympic medallists, Marius Lindvik and Johann André Forfang were all suspended for three months for adjusting the seams of their suits around the crotch area.

According to the Guardian: “2cm in suit size circumference reduced drag by 4% and increased lift by 5%. It said that a 2cm change in the suits was equivalent to an extra 5.8 metres in jump length.”
