Following a successful Ashes campaign, it appears that Kevin Walters will be kept on as the coach of the Australian Kangaroos for this year’s Rugby League World Cup, as per News Corp’s Peter Badel.

Following Mal Mengina’s departure from the role to take up a position with the Perth Bears, the former Brisbane Broncos player and coach had been appointed to the position, having reportedly beaten Brad Fittler and Cameron Smith to it.

He was only appointed for the Rugby League Ashes, which turned into a coaching audition for Walters.

But with a 3-nil clean sweep of England, it appears that the ARL Commission will likely extend his tenure, with negotiations expected to begin between the two parties once the Las Vegas double header for the 2026 season concludes.

The men’s RLWC begins on October 15, when Australia will play their Trans-Tasman rivals in New Zealand at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
