MATCH RECAP

  • The Seattle Seahawks have defeated the New England Patriots to win Super Bowl LX 29-13
  • Aussie punter Michael Dickson wins his first ever Super Bowl
  • Running back Kenneth Walker III has been named SB MVP after running for 135 yards
  • Seattle's 'Darkside Defence' stood up when it mattered most with six sacks, a fumble turnover and an interception for the match
  • Kicker Jason Myers kicked a perfect 5/5 to outscore the Patriots off his own boot

Just like the 1993 rom-com, there will be many who are Sleepless in Seattle following the Seahawks' win in Super Bowl LX.

The NFC Champions have now become world champions after claiming a 29-13 victory against the New England Patriots on Sunday (Monday AEDT) at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Seattle's defence was simply too good for New England's offensive line, having sacked quarterback Drake Maye six times and seeing the second-year player under pressure throughout the game.

It was a tight affair for the first three quarters, with Seattle Seahawks kicker Jason Myers being the only points scorer during that period to see them lead by 12 points.

But following an AJ Barner touchdown early in the fourth quarter, it all but secured the win.

The Patriots would get some late scores, but it was too little, too late.

The win sees the 2018 No. 3 pick Sam Darnold win his first ever Super Bowl with his fifth side as quarter back.

Much has also been made of the half-time entertainment, which was headlined by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny.

The mainly Spanish-speaking artist performed his set amongst some palm trees and tall grass, depicting his country of origin alongside fellow Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga.

See all the big moments below.

2:52pm - Goodbye from us

And with the conclusion of the post-match ceremony, that brings an end to our live blog.

Whilst it took the majority of the game before the scoreboard got really ticking, it's certainly been a fascinating match which will live in the memory of all Seahawks fans.

It also means for the second year running, we have an Australian that has won with punter Michael Dickson joining Jordan Mailata in that club.

Now, the wait to Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium for Super Bowl LXI begins.

2:35pm The vibes are immaculate in Seattle

Much like the movie, there will be many that are Sleepless in Seattle tonight!

2:28pm - The Gatorade has been poured

It's a traditon as sacred as any other in American sports.

We've had Seattle coach Mike Macdonald poured with Gatorade of the yellow variety.

Gatorade

2:23pm SEATTLE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS

Seattle 29-13 New England

The Seattle Seahawks have gotten their revenge for Super Bowl 49 having defeated the New England Patriots.

The Seahawks' defence was exceptional with six sacks throughout the game.

The Dark Side Defence now sits alongside the Legion of Boom in Seattle's history.

And Aussie Michael Dickson is now a Super Bowl champion.

2:15pm Walker III almost locks up the MVP

Seattle 29-13 New England

It was almost the perfect ending for Kenneth Walker III to claim his SB MVP.

The Seahawks' running back got through for a running touchdown which would have sealed the award considering he's run for 131 yards.

But it's been called back for holding seeing the touchdown voided.

2:09pm Patriots close the gap...but it's too late

Seattle 29-13 New England

A consolation touchdown for the Patriots there by Rhamondre Stevenson to close the gap to 16.

They try for the two point conversion but it's no good with Hunter Henry unable to hold on.

1:58pm And that's the ball game

Seattle 29-7 New England

Uchenna Nwosu has just helped the Seattle Seahawks winning their second Super Bowl in their franchise history.

The linebacker managed to get on the end of a fumble caused Devon Witherspoon and turn it into a six pointer.

With five minutes left, the game is all but there's.

1:53pm Myers keeps a perfect record

Seattle 22-7 New England

It's five from five from the Seattle kicker having nailed in essence a chip shot to extend their lead to 15 points.

The Patriots are going to ultra aggresive to get up the field and try and bring the score within a single converted touchdown.

1:48pm INTERCEPTION

Seattle 19-7 New England

What a pick by Julian Love.

The safety intercepts a Drake Maye pass.

1:35pm - Patriots RESPOND

Seattle 19-7 New England

And the game is alive once more!

The Patriots have responded to the Barner TD with one of their own with Mack Hollins scoring a 35-yard touchdown.

With 12 and a half minutes left, could the Pats come back?

1:32pm - Seahawks closing in here

Seattle 19-0 New England

After so much pressure, the Seahawks have finally scored a touchdown with AJ Barner the man to receive it.

It's the defence's score as much as anything considering they forced the turnover in the previous drive.

1:27pm - SB LX creates more history

For the second time in Super Bowl history, no side through three quarters has scored a touchdown.

The last time it happened was in 2019 between the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. The Pats won 13-3.

1:20pm FUMBLE

Seattle 12-0 New England

And with Seattle's fifth sack of the match, it has produced a fumble which sees the Seahawks regain possession.

1:17pm - JSN taken to the locker room

Seattle 12-0 New England

Star wide-receiever Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been taken to the locker room.

He was sighted entering the blue medical tent earlier in the match. He also has one of the best nicknames in world sport being known as "The Emerald City Route Artist".

What impact will this have on Seattle's offence?

12:55pm - Seahawks keep the scoreboard ticking

Seattle 12-0 New England

It's the Jason Myers show at the minute.

He's kicked his fourth field goal of the game from his fourth attempt. He hits this one sweetly from 41 yards with the Seahawks now leading by 12 points.

But it's running back Kenneth Walker III firming as the favourite for the MVP award at the moment.

He's been a large driver for their offensive games so far, which has allowed them to get into these field goal opportunities.

12:42pm - Second half is underway

Seattle 9-0 New England

The Seahawks have kicked off the second half with the Patriots starting on their own 31 yard line.

Can Drake Maye and New England weave some magic against the Dark Side Defence and get on the scoreboard?

12:19pm Bad Bunny's performance is underway

Amongst the high grass and palm trees out on Levi's Stadium, Bad Bunny is beginning his set.

And alongside some the guest cameos throughout, Lady Gaga has sang along with the Puetro Rician artist.

The tropical vibe is certainly working with the back drop of the San Francisco sky blending in perfectly.

And we've now got Ricky Martin performing Despacito to add to the Hispanic theme of the performance.

And he finishes it off by marching off the field with all of the Latin American flags behind with the scoreboard displaying a message.

"The only thing more powerful than hate is love."

With the NFL trying to appeal to a more global and a non-English speaking audience, it will have certainly helped push that case.

11:52am - Half time

Seattle 6-0 New England

We're 30 minutes through Super Bowl LX with two Jason Myers field goals splitting the difference between the two sides.

It's been an absolute battle between the two defences with neither side being really able to get any offence going beside some runs from Seattle's Kenneth Walker III during the second quarter.

But it's been the offensive line where the difference has been noticable with the offensive line with New England conceding three sacks compared to Seattle's zero.

But with the end of the half, it now sees Bad Bunny come out to the field for his half-time performance.

11:44am - Patriots backed right in

Michael Dickson has delieverd another exceptional punt to push the Patriots right on the goal line.

New England need to get a score off this drive.

11:28am - Seattle doubles their score

Seattle 6-0 New England

And with another field goal by Jason Myers, the Seahawks are continuing to build their lead.

Two big runs by Kenneth Walker III have taken the Seahawks right into the red zone but they weren't able to get into the endzone.

The kicker slots it from 39 yards which was slightly longer than his first field goal.

11:16am - Quarter time

Seattle 3-0 New England

It's been a solid performance by both the Patriots and Seahawks defence who have been able to stifle one another with a combined yardage of 104 yards.

The opening drive would see the first and only score of the match with kicker Jason Myers nailing a 33-yard field goal.

But with Patriots' QB Drake Maye having been sacked twice, there are some concerns with their O-Line.

11:04am - Dickson makes his mark

Seattle 3-0 New England

Aussie Michael Dickson is finally in action for the Seahawks after the Patriots were able to shut down Seattle's offence.

And he's nailed it with some good yardage which has left former NFL punter Ben Graham impressed.

Graham: "That's why he's the best punter in the world."

The ball is on New England's 36-yard-line.

10:46am - Seattle on the scoreboard

Seattle 3-0 New England

Seahawks kicker Jason Myers has kicked it from 33-yards and nails it through the upright.

It's a good start by the NFC Champs who score with their opening drive. That should help settle the nerves.

10:39am - Coin toss result

The coin toss has been done.

It's landed on heads with the Patriots winning it.

They'll elect to receive the ball in the second half.

But it hasn't been received well by SEN's Larry Fitzgerald Sr.

Fitzgerald Sr.: "I just don't understand coaches that pass it (receiving) on to the second half."

10:28am - National anthem

Charlie Puth has sung a beautiful rendition of the American national anthem.

And with plenty of pomp alongside it, having played the keyboard whilst singing it.

What an effort!

10:19am - Players are on the field

We're moments away from the kick-off and the players are on the field with some star-studded introductions

Actor Chris Pratt helped introduce the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks onto Levi's Stadium while rock artist Bon Jon Jovi did the same for the New England Patriots.

10:10am - Green Day performs

The pre-match festivities have already gotten underway with Green Day rocking the house at Levi's Stadium as they were surrounded by some NFL legends like Steve Young, Tom Brady and Eli Manning, amongst others.

We're off to a good start.

10:00am - Welcome to the blog

A big warm welcome to wherever you may be finding us on this Monday morning as we gear up for kick-off, which is only 30 minutes away.

There has been plenty made of this matchup considering that it is the most unlikely Super Bowl combination when combining their pre-season odds since 1989.

Seattle comes into the match as favourites with their 'Darkside Defence' being rated as No. 1 in the league, conceding an average of just 17.2 points per game.

And their weapons on the other side of the ball are just as good, with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba being named as the league's offensive player of the year.

But considering New England's history (today is their 12th Super Bowl appearance in franchise history), you cannot write them off with second-year quarterback Drake Maye being oh so close to a maiden MVP title.

Either way, we should be in for a ripsnorter of a game.
