Former NRL star Matt Utai is reportedly fighting for life after being shot twice in an attack in Sydney.

According to reports, the ex-Bulldogs and Tigers player was gunned down in an early morning attack 20kms west of Sydney's CBD

The Daily Telegraph claims emergency services were called to Macquarie St in Greenacre just before 6am where they tended to a man that had been shot in the stomach and the leg.

“Police have established crime scenes at both locations, with Bankstown detectives commencing an investigation and treating both incidents as linked,” a police statement read.

Utai, a Bulldogs premiership player from 2004, played 162 NRL games and was named 2002 Dally M Rookie of the Year.
