Parker: Zac Lomax is not a criminal, he should be playing

By Corey Parker

Are you happy with the Zac Lomax situation? I'm not.

He has made a poor decision, I think everyone's aware of that.

Poor decision and or poor management, OK.

We have people in our game making poor decisions week in and week out.

Some of those have huge ramifications externally.

Take Ezra Mam for example last year; he made a really poor decision in his life, he drove under the influence, had an accident and people got injured.

He is on a four-year deal and is still playing at the Brisbane Broncos, and I'm OK with that, I applaud that.

We're a game of second chances.

Zac Lomax has not committed any crime.

He's made a poor decision, yet now they want to hold him out of the game for a couple of years? Because of what? A contract.

When the contract doesn't suit the club they want to dig their heels in and when it does suit them – like with Ryan Matterson - you can leave, it’s completely different.

Lomax has made a poor decision and he'll put his hand up and say he's made a poor decision too. But come on, this is a game of rugby league.

There are things going on in the world that have huge ramifications and the Parramatta Eels - who haven't won a comp in over 40 years or thereabouts – are doing this?

He's a winger, he's not a halfback, he's just a winger - and I say that respectfully – he’s an unbelievable player.

Storm could've offered a million bucks and the Eels still would have said no.

That's how it seems to be at the moment because by all reports they were going to get something done, and then all of a sudden the handbrake came on and it’s not happening.

So, he can still play and find his way in the NRL if the terms and conditions help Parramatta. Just get your money, move on and let the kid play some rugby league.

That's how I see it.

They don't want him.

So if they don't want him, what do they want?

Have they come out and actually said what they actually want?

Like what's the figure?

What's a figure that will buy it?

What's a figure on a player?

Lomax’s decision is no different to all the other poor decisions we see in the NRL where players hold contracts and continue to play in our game.

There's been a lot of people who've signed contracts.

It’s in the Ts and Cs of those contracts that if you come up with X and Y or if you do the wrong thing that contract can be pulled.

Other players have continued to play.

We give second, third and fourth chances all the time, this kid's made a poor decision. Let him play.
