Zac Lomax has been spotted leaving Rugby Australia HQ after an NRL return was delayed until the 2028 season.

As the court case between the Eels and Lomax came to a close yesterday, and the Storm and Eels were unable to come to an agreement, Lomax is now prohibited from signing with an NRL club until October 31, 2027.

Lomax was initially granted a release from his four-year contract with Parramatta to join rugby union competition R360, but upon the competition's delay, Lomax had begun investigating a potential return to professional sport.

This included a meeting with Super Rugby side, the Western Force, with the potential of lining up for the Wallabies in the 2027 World Cup.

While this move appeared mooted following Lomax’s attempts to join the Storm began, the result of the court case means a move to Union could be back on the cards for Lomax.

Lomax would join the likes of Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i, Mark Nawaqanitawase, and Angus Crichton in moving to union in pursuit of lining up in the home World Cup.

Western Force coach Simon Cron confirmed to The Daily Telegraph his side were interested in signing Lomax after his meeting with Rugby Australia today.

“I really rate Zac highly, he is a quality person, and I would love to sign him here at the Western Force,” Cron said.

“I believe Zac really enjoyed spending time with us, and he would be a valuable addition to the team if we could get him.”

Rugby Australia would need to pay some of Lomax’s contract in order for a Super Rugby side to afford the former Origin winger.
